This Cookie Policy explains how THE NEST uses cookies and similar technologies, what they are for, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information.
In plain words
- We use cookies that the site needs to work, such as the one that keeps you signed in and the one that protects forms.
- We also keep small settings in your browser, for example your light or dark theme, so the site remembers your choices.
- We do not use third-party advertising cookies at the moment. If that changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires.
- Some fonts, icons and code libraries load from other companies' servers, which can see basic details about your browser.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Some parts of the site may stop working if you do.
This summary is only to help you understand the document. The full text below is what applies.
1. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage in your browser, do the same kind of job: they let a site remember something between pages or visits. In this policy, "cookies" means all of them.
Cookies may be "session" cookies, which disappear when you close your browser, or "persistent" cookies, which stay for a set time. They may be "first-party", set by THE NEST, or "third-party", set by another company whose content appears on our pages.
2. How we use cookies
| Type | What it is for | Can you refuse it? |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Keeping you signed in, remembering your basket, protecting forms and sessions against attacks, and keeping the Platform secure. | No. The Platform cannot work without them. |
| Preferences | Remembering your theme (light or dark), your colour choice and layout settings in the seller dashboard, and notices you have dismissed. | Yes. Some settings will then reset every visit. |
| Sponsored listings | Counting when a sponsored listing is shown or clicked, so that the seller can be charged correctly and so that we can spot fake clicks. | These records are made on our own servers when you click. Blocking cookies does not stop them. |
| Measurement | If we use them, to learn which pages are used so that we can improve the Platform. | Yes. Where the law requires, we will ask for your consent first. |
3. The main ones we set today
| Name or kind | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie (PHP session) | Keeps you signed in and remembers your basket while you use the Platform. It is sent only over secure connections and cannot be read by scripts on the page. | Until you close your browser, or until you log out. |
| csrf_token_backup | A security cookie that helps protect forms against forged requests. | About 1 hour. |
| Browser settings (local storage): theme, accent colour, collapsed menu | Remembers how you set up the seller dashboard, such as dark mode. | Until you clear your browser data. |
| Browser setting (local storage): order celebration flag | Remembers that you have already seen the "delivered" celebration for an order, so that it does not repeat. | Until you clear your browser data. |
We may add or change cookies as the Platform develops. The table above shows what we use at the date of this policy.
4. Content and sign-in from other companies
- Fonts, icons and code libraries. Some of our pages load fonts, icon sets and code libraries from other companies' servers (content delivery networks). When your browser fetches them, those companies receive your IP address and basic browser details, as with any web request.
- Sign in with Google. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google may set its own cookies and process your information under its own policies.
- Maps and location. Pages that show a map or look up an address may use a mapping provider. See section 7 of our Privacy Policy for how we handle location.
- Links to other websites, such as our social media pages, are governed by those websites' own policies.
We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies. If we begin to use advertising or analytics cookies from third parties, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires.
5. Your choices
- Browser settings. Most browsers let you see, block or delete cookies and local storage, and to clear them when you close the browser. The steps differ by browser. Look for "Privacy" or "Cookies" in your browser's settings or help pages.
- What happens if you block them. If you block necessary cookies, you will not be able to sign in or keep a basket. If you block preference settings, the Platform still works, but it forgets your choices.
- Sign out on shared devices. If you use a shared or public device, log out when you finish and close the browser.
- Marketing messages. Cookie settings do not control our e-mail or SMS marketing. You can opt out of those as set out in our Privacy Policy.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when we add a feature or a new tool. The version number and dates at the top show which version applies, and the document history lists earlier versions. For a material change, we will give at least 14 days' notice on the Platform, unless the change must take effect sooner for legal or security reasons.
